2023 is the year of the rabbit, an interesting idea coming from China. The Year of the Rabbit occurs every 12 years. Chinese ancestors designated 12 animals to name a year including Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig which can be called 12 zodiac animals. Now it is the rabbit’s turn.

According to the Chinese Calendar, the year of the rabbit starts from January 22nd, 2023 (Chinese New Year), and ends on February 9th, 2024 (Chinese New Year’s Eve).

What does the year of the rabbit mean?

The sign of the Rabbit is generally a symbol of longevity, peace, and prosperity in Chinese culture. Therefore, the year of the rabbit is always supposed to be a year bringing new fortunes.

If you were born in the year of the rabbit such as 2023, 2011, 1999, 1987, 1975, 1963, 1951, 1939, 1927…you are a rabbit baby. People born in the year of the rabbit are said to be gentle, kind-hearted, and sensitive. They are also known for their intelligence, elegance, and artistic talent. Then the year of the rabbit is your zodiac year which you have to proceed with caution to protect yourself from bad fortunes.

Is 2023 a good year for rabbits?

The luckiest zodiac animals in the year of the rabbit are Oxes, Tigers, and Snakes. Then, with not quite so much luck, come Dogs, Horses, Goats, and Pigs. Rabbits’ and Rats’ fortunes will be influenced by ‘opposition to Tai Sui’, the God of Age in Chinese mythology. Roosters and Monkeys will have to work especially hard to make headway.

Therefore, 2023 would be a challenging year for the rabbit babies. According to Chinese traditional folklore, wearing red clothes such as red underwear, red socks or carrying a red amulet are supposed to the best way to sweep away the bad luck, especially lucky red stuff received from others.

This traditional custom still live in some Chinese familes. The elder send good vibes and all the best wishes to the younger by gifting a red stuff.
